VILLEMOISSON-SUR-ORGE (91) 01.01.2016

On 1 January 2016 at 01:30, several people in Villemoisson-sur-Orge watched 3 orange spheres moving silently through the sky. After 5 minutes, they appeared to disappear at high speed. Only 1 account was submitted. GEIPAN considers orange balls seen on a weekend or festive night, such as New Year’s Eve, strongly suggestive of Thai sky lanterns released nearby after a private party. Similar paths followed by successive objects are also typical of lanterns released one after another into the same air current. GEIPAN explains that a lantern’s light can fade rapidly without going out instantaneously, creating an impression that the object is receding at tremendous speed. The case is classified B: probable sky lanterns.
