GAGNY (93) 27.06.2016

On Monday 27 June 2016 at about 21:00, a witness in Gagny (93) saw light from an object rising in the sky. It rotated and followed an irregular path. He photographed it before it disappeared into clouds. Only 1 account was collected. The account has a substantial evidential basis with enough usable information and 7 photographs, partially suitable for analysis; see the investigation report. A detailed examination combining wind and cloud data with IPACO image analysis found a Mylar novelty balloon drifting with the wind very probable. GEIPAN suggests the witness could not recognize it because he had probably not seen such an object before, or under similar conditions. The case is classified as A: very probable observation of a windborne Mylar novelty balloon 1–2 m long.
