TERRASSON-LAVILLEDIEU (24) 23.08.2016

On Tuesday 23 August 2016 around 21:45, a family in Terrasson-Lavilledieu saw several coloured points of light pass silently through the sky. Some flashed before trees obscured the phenomenon. Only 1 account was obtained. GEIPAN considers that they very probably saw LED balloons. Such helium-filled balloons can have steady or flashing lights in various colours, which may change during flight. The description matches products sold on sites such as Lacheballon, cited in the source. The sighting occurred during summer holidays, when celebrations are common, and, most significantly, the observed northwestward movement matched the wind direction recorded in the area at that hour by Infoclimat. The case is classified B: probable observation of passing LED balloons.
