CHECY (45) 23.08.2016

On 23 August 2016 between 21:15 and 21:30, a witness and his son on their terrace in Chécy (45) saw an incandescent orange sphere moving silently. The witness discerned flames on its surface; the child called it a ball of fire. It traveled east to west without changing direction until lost from view after 30 seconds. No trail was noticed. Only 1 account was collected. GEIPAN finds the sighting fully consistent with a sky-lantern release: its path matched the wind, appearance, color and brightness fit, and a summer night favored a celebration; see the investigation report. It classifies the case A: very probable sky lantern.
