ARLES (13) 25.08.2016

On 25 August 2016 at about 17:30, 3 people outdoors in Arles were intrigued by a luminous object moving very slowly at low altitude, its shape apparently changing as it moved. It disappeared behind a cypress hedge. They tried to follow it by car but could not find it again. Photographs were taken, and one witness account was collected. GEIPAN considers the case only slightly unusual, mainly because of the object's unfamiliar appearance: it suggests the witness could not relate it to something known because he had probably never seen such a thing before. The investigation report finds the account well supported, with sufficient usable information. There are also 15 photographs, which could be used in part for the analysis. GEIPAN classifies the case as A, describing it as a very highly probable sighting of a novelty Mylar balloon carried by the wind.
