MARDIE (45) 28.08.2016

At about 00:02 on Sunday 28 August 2016, a witness dining with about 30 other guests in Mardié (45) saw an orange light move south to north in complete silence. A second appeared a few minutes later on the same path. The phenomenon repeated 7–10 times with the same appearance, speed and altitude. A photograph was taken. Only 1 account was collected. GEIPAN finds everything consistent with a sky-lantern release; see the investigation report. Movement matched the wind, appearance, path and repetition were typical, IPACO color analysis was compatible with lanterns, and the weekend night favored a celebration. GEIPAN classifies the case A: very probable sky lanterns.
