Around 20:45 on 6 September 2016, a witness and his female companion on their terrace in Nîmes saw a particularly conspicuous point of light in the western sky. He recorded 9 minutes of video capturing much of it. They had seen the same point in the same area the previous evening, and saw it again on 7 September around 20:30 and 8 September around 20:15.
The observations occurred around sunset. Stellarium placed Venus in their field of view at each date and time. Recurrence, movement and the video all supported identification of that planet. GEIPAN found the video confirmed Venus's especially bright appearance on 6 September, due to the clear sky and the planet's brightness. Residual strangeness was low. GEIPAN classified the case A: repeated misidentification of Venus.
