CAUFFRY (60) 29.09.2016

On 29 September 2016 at about 22:56, a witness looking at a cloudy sky saw a light above Cauffry park (60), resembling an enormous helicopter blade, apparently rotating silently in one place. It lasted 50–55 minutes and disappeared suddenly. Only 1 account was collected. GEIPAN finds many similarities with the simultaneous observation 2–3 km away in Rantigny on the same date and adopts the same conclusion: very probably laser beams from a nightclub, celebration or special event reflecting off cloud or fine rain, both present that evening. Atmospheric conditions greatly affect how far such light effects are visible, sometimes tens of kilometres, making them fleeting or unusual far from their source. GEIPAN did not identify the emitter but has several identified cases with similar effects. The case is classified B: probable laser light display, described as a sky rose or light spots.
