On 28 January 2017 between 05:07 and 05:10, a motorist on the A5 from Chauffour-lès-Bailly towards Troyes (10) saw an intriguing luminous phenomenon in a slightly cloudy sky: 4 aligned white lights and 2 flashing lights of different colours, viewed through the windscreen. While driving at 110 km/h, he filmed it with his phone.
GEIPAN finds that his account conveys little perceived strangeness and is also very poorly documented, possibly for related reasons. The video shows no UAP, but suggests that what interested him was generally ahead along the road. He said the UAP was moving in the same direction as he was.
Capella was in that direction and could have been the UAP, with the row of lights and coloured scintillation caused by optical effects in the windscreen. He did not give the row's angular width or clarify whether motion meant a changing angular position or an inferred trajectory parallel to his own. GEIPAN notes that an unrecognised star may seem to move with an observer.
The description is too imprecise for further analysis. A row of lights seen through a windscreen could have several explanations, including a star or aircraft light split into multiple images, or a reflection of something inside the car.
GEIPAN classifies the case C: low strangeness and, above all, insufficient information for analysis.
