BESANCON (25) 26.06.2017

The narrative places this Besançon sighting on 26 August 2017 between 00:20 and 00:25, while the case title gives 26 June 2017. A witness looking from his bedroom saw 2 red lights above Fort de Bregille. Initially stationary, they began moving slowly, then suddenly dimmed. No particular sound was heard. Only 1 account was collected. The analysis describes a 1-minute observation on a Friday evening. Photographs confirm an eastward viewing direction and an apparent north-to-south path. GEIPAN considers the red color, slow downward movement compatible with the wind, and sharp fading characteristic of sky lanterns going out. The cited Météociel record for Besançon refers to the morning of the 27th, between 00:00 and 01:00, with no rain and very light winds of variable direction, compatible with north–south travel. The analysis also regards a summer Friday evening at the start of a weekend as favorable for lantern releases. GEIPAN considers the remaining strangeness low and the account sufficiently supported to classify the case B: probable lantern release. The source's different dates and timing descriptions are retained here without resolution.
