On 7 July 2017, between 23:00 and midnight, a witness on his terrace with friends in Gouesnach saw 5 luminous objects pass one after another from northeast to southwest. They were completely silent and followed the same path. No 2 were visible at the same time, and they did not flash. They moved fairly briskly and remained visible for quite a long time. On 13 July, the witness contacted GEIPAN again. After reading about a similar 2008 sighting on Île d’Yeu and exploring the GEIPAN website in detail, particularly its video about Thai sky lanterns, he was convinced that he had seen the same phenomenon. The lights, speed, path and other features matched sky lanterns in every respect. He had been surprised because he had not known that sky lanterns existed.
