On 12 July 2017, a witness attending a show for the Tour de France's visit to Pau, in place Clémenceau, noticed other people pointing toward the cloudy sky. He saw several flat luminous forms pass above the Chamber of Commerce roof and out of view. Moving to boulevard des Pyrénées, he observed other lights traveling straight and changing direction. No sound was heard. He took several photographs of the phenomenon and later daytime photographs to establish the viewing locations. Only 1 account was collected. GEIPAN reasons that a genuinely unusual event above a crowded city celebration would likely have produced other reports, particularly because the witness explicitly mentioned other observers. In this setting, novelty balloons released during the celebration are the most probable explanation. GEIPAN states that it would not devote further investigative resources without another account indicating unusual features. It classifies the case B: probable observation of novelty balloons.
