On 5 October 2017 at 13:30, a witness lying on the ground during physical exercise in Le Châtelard (73) saw an opaque white ball move west to east surprisingly fast. No trail or sound was noticed. It remained visible for 15–20 seconds. Only 1 account was collected.
GEIPAN considered a fireball, a meteor of high brightness, although no confirmed record of a corresponding passage was found. Daytime fireballs are harder to see; some can be detected by cameras or radar without human reports. The witness's calm, reclining position during a breathing exercise may have favored detection. Its appearance could fit, but the reported duration was long and needed clarification. The witness did not return the requested questionnaire, preventing further investigation of this or another hypothesis. GEIPAN classifies the case C: insufficient reliable information.
