On Wednesday 4 April 2018 at 21:00, a witness saw an intensely bright white, stationary light in the night sky. It appeared circular, flashing and surrounded by long filaments. The witness watched for 40 minutes and recorded video before cloud hid it. Three family members also witnessed it, but only 1 account was collected.
The account clearly describes Venus. The witness mentioned Venus but thought this object brighter and saw filaments around it. The reported direction toward Montchat, roughly azimuth 280°–290°, matches Venus at about 280° and 10° elevation, compared with the witness's estimate of 10°–15°.
GEIPAN finds this positional agreement conclusive. Had the UAP been separate, Venus should have been noticed nearby sometime during the long observation, since clouds in that direction were transient, as the account and photograph show. Prolonged attention to Venus often creates impressions of rays or, here, filaments.
GEIPAN classifies the case A: Venus.
