On Sunday, June 03, 2018 at 10:45 p.m., a witness is surprised to see in the overcast sky the silent movement of a round orange red light. The witness takes binoculars and finds that three red-orange balls aligned horizontally move in the overcast sky. The witness notes a kind of blurred halo above the 3 balls that eventually move away towards the North always in silence and at the same pace. Another witness who is present also sees the UAP but did not use the binoculars and will not testify.
At the conclusion of the investigation, almost all the physical and dynamic parameters of the UAPs suggest a group of lanterns carried by the wind (see the investigation report). An important point remains: the 30 min observation time is difficult to reconcile with the hypothesis of classic lanterns for which 20 minutes appears to be the maximum burn time. This leads us to formulate a second hypothesis of festive balloons with integrated LED. These balloons could all be orange.
Further examination of the witness's observation, through exchanges of mail with the investigator, did not allow for the clarification of this element of incompatibility. On the contrary, it brings another element of strangeness which is quite incompatible with our hypothesis: regular tilting by −10° to +10° from horizontal during movement, while the 3 UAPs maintained their alignment.
The UAP under investigation is very similar to the study of the case MOTTE-SERVOLEX (LA) (73) 02.06.2018. The reported observation of LA MOTTE-SERVOLEX occurred the previous day, at about the same times and at a very close distance (UAP estimated at 2 km from the locations of both accounts). Both testimonies indicate a very long observation duration. This is the most critical point for our hypothesis of classic flying lanterns. The second hypothesis of festive balloons with integrated LED is more coherent. Their lights can operate for several hours.
GEIPAN ranks the case in "B": likely observation of a group of three flying lanterns or festive light balloons with integrated LED.
