PONT-SAINT-ESPRIT (30), Languedoc Roussillon, France
Open this case in the interactive AtlasCase description
On 12 July 2018 at about 23:20, a witness on a terrace saw a black triangular shape “composed of 2 distinct parts” and “circles of light.” It passed silently in a straight line and was quickly hidden by a house. Only 1 account was collected.
The case has moderate strangeness and weak evidential support: a single, sometimes imprecise account with ambiguities. It cannot be identified from the available data. GEIPAN defines evidential consistency as the amount of information in an account considered reliable and objectively supported.
Several explanations could fit, but the duration is ambiguous. The free-text account gives a few seconds, while answer B6 in the technical questionnaire gives 1–2 minutes. This prevents favoring one explanation. The UAP's angular elevation also conflicts with the account, and its trajectory remains unknown despite the initial straight-line description.
GEIPAN repeatedly requested further information, particularly the sketch mentioned in the questionnaire, but none had been provided when the account was written.
The case is classified C: unidentifiable because of insufficient data.
