DOMESSIN (73) 11.08.2018

Around 14:15 on 11 August 2018, 2 witnesses on a garden terrace in Domessin (73) saw several dozen small silvery-white luminous spheres and streaks moving in the sky, visible only in the glare around the Sun. They themselves were in shade. Only 1 account was collected. GEIPAN assessed the case as low in strangeness with moderate evidential support, citing 2 witnesses but a single account and no photograph. It defines evidential strength as the quantity of reliable, objectively supported information collected for an account. It favoured insects, pollen and/or dust passing through sunlight; see the investigation report. Visibility only towards the Sun, the colour and observation duration fitted this explanation. The reported silvery-white trails particularly suggested tiny spiders using silk for ballooning through the air. However, without another account or photographs, GEIPAN could not examine it more closely or confirm the hypothesis conclusively. The case was classified B: probable observation of insects, pollen and/or dust.
