On 20 September 2018 at about 21:00, a woman driving in the Angicourt (60) case saw a rectangular or oval UAP with flashing red and yellow lights. It seemed to hover above the Forêt de Cinqueux (60). She continued her journey and returned 45 minutes later, by which time it was gone. She gave a brief gendarmerie statement, later supplemented by a questionnaire partly completed by the gendarmerie. A request for her to complete it received no reply. Only 1 account was collected.
The gendarmerie considered the lights similar to aircraft beacons, so that possibility was investigated. Creil Air Base reported no flights during the period. A drone flight had been scheduled at Verneuil-en-Halatte, but its pilot said it had been canceled. ABC hélico, authorized for low-altitude flights in the area, reported no flights on the specified day. Military-aircraft, drone and helicopter explanations were therefore not substantiated.
However, 3 civil aircraft passed through the area at the relevant times: AF1565, registration F-GKXS, Birmingham–Roissy; BA2625, G-DBCH, Nice–London; and IBK2906, EI-FJP, London–Copenhagen. GEIPAN therefore considers aircraft misidentification highly probable.
It classifies the case as B: probable misidentification of an aircraft.
