[A11] de ANCENIS (44) vers NANTES (44) 09.10.2018

On 9 October 2018 at about 21:00, 2 people travelling together on the A11 between Ancenis (44) and Nantes (44) suddenly saw 1 or 2 intense lights move left to right through a clear sky. The sighting lasted only a few seconds, leaving them wondering what they had seen. GEIPAN rates evidential support as fairly good (see the investigation report): there are 2 direct but non-independent witnesses, who are friends, an incomplete subjective reconstruction with imprecise time and locations, and no photograph or video. Strangeness is fairly low, with one explanation considered. The brightness, very high apparent speed and brief duration strongly suggest a fireball. However, none could be matched despite checks of the available monitoring networks, so the explanation remains probable rather than certain. GEIPAN classifies the case B: probable fireball.
