EVREUX (27) 21.11.2018

Around 20:00 on Wednesday 21 November 2018, a motorist on the RN154 near Évreux (27) looked through his right window and saw a round form with red and green lights above a field in misty conditions. It rose gently for a few seconds, then travelled straight in the opposite direction to his vehicle. He finally lost it from view in his right mirror. No additional accounts were collected. GEIPAN assessed both strangeness and evidential strength as moderate: one witness, imprecise location and date, and no photograph. The flashing colours and apparent closeness to the ground suggested an aircraft or ground vehicle; see the investigation report. It was beet-harvest season, and the location appeared to be near Évreux air base. The reporting delay prevented a request for radar tracks from the authorities. GEIPAN classified the case C: insufficient reliable information.
