Case description
During a night walk in Aron (53) on 31 May 2019 at 23:30, a witness saw a very bright spherical UAP moving apparently at low altitude. He took photographs before it disappeared into the distance, and sent the best to GEIPAN. Only 1 account was collected. A later email supplied an important clarification of its direction.
GEIPAN finds low strangeness and moderate evidential substance: 1 witness and a poor-quality photograph. It identifies the International Space Station (ISS); see the investigation report.
The description strongly suggests the ISS, which the source calls the only satellite bright enough to photograph easily. Its slow steady movement and round appearance fit the ISS, which passed through the witness's sky at a compatible angular elevation. Its path appeared reversed relative to the report, but GEIPAN considers it very likely that the witness reversed the compass directions, since an email described right-to-left movement. The case is comparable to another observation at a compatible time that was identified as the ISS.
The case is classified A: misidentification of the ISS.
