On 18 June 2019 at about 01:00, a witness noticed a very bright phenomenon in the sky, initially stationary and then apparently moving very rapidly along an L-shaped path. The witness took photographs and heard no particular sound. The UAP was still visible when the witness closed the shutters and went to bed. On 19 June at 01:00, the witness saw it again, farther west.
The evidence is fairly strong: the account is reasonably precise, and the photographs allow an azimuth to be determined. The Moon provides a reference for locating the UAP in the sky (see the investigation report and photographs taken on 18 June).
The witness's phone clock was 13 minutes slow. Investigators measured this discrepancy using an aircraft visible in one photograph. Two witnesses saw the phenomenon, but only 1 account was available because the second did not complete GEIPAN's questionnaire.
Comparison of a photograph with the sky chart for the observation time shows Jupiter matching the UAP perfectly in brightness and position. GEIPAN finds the interpretation mistaken: the UAP was neither geostationary nor illuminated by the Moon. The sudden L-shaped movement was an illusion caused by movement of the phone while the photograph was being taken.
With very low strangeness and good evidential support from several photographs, the case is a definite misidentification of Jupiter.
The case is classified A: misidentification of Jupiter.
