Open this case in the interactive AtlasCase description
On 14 July 2019 at 20:35, a witness visiting friends saw a charcoal-gray object, matte but shining in sunlight, apparently approaching quite quickly. The witness did not alert the friends, who saw it afterward on the witness's camera. The object moved away south-southeast and was lost from view. The sighting lasted 25 seconds and was silent. Only 1 account was collected.
The evidence is good: 1 account, a photograph and later information from the witness (see the investigation report). IPACO image analysis and wind analysis suggest a lost helium balloon, fish-shaped or at least very probably elongated. The source gives its size as 0.80 cm; this unusual value and unit are retained without correction.
The shape, silence, apparent speed and rarity of such a sighting explain the witness's sense of strangeness. The witness also emphasized its unfamiliarity and inability to explain it.
GEIPAN classifies the case B: probable festive balloon carried by the wind.
