SAUVAGES (LES) (69) 25.01.2020

Between 04:30 and 05:00 on 25 January 2020, a woman in Les Sauvages (69), unable to sleep, walked her dog. She saw a large white ball sweeping back and forth through low, hazy cloud above the D8, making broad turns abreast of her position. No sound was heard during the roughly 30-minute observation. Only 1 account was collected. GEIPAN assessed the case as low in strangeness with good evidential support from a fairly precise single account, and considered a skytracer very probable; see the investigation report. The round shape, repeated oval course, long duration, overcast sky and white colour were characteristic. Strong brightness and low clouds suggested a nearby source. A nightclub just 9 km away had a skytracer operating at the time. Its position north of the witness matched the viewing direction. GEIPAN classified the case A: observation of a skytracer light display.
