On 8 July 2020 between 04:30 and 05:10, a witness intermittently saw a bright UAP apparently remaining in the same place in the sky. The witness estimated 5 minutes of actual observation across 3 phases and photographed it with a phone. After going inside and becoming intrigued by the images, the witness went back out 1–2 minutes later, but the UAP was gone. Only 1 account was collected.
Strangeness is low and evidential support good: a fairly complete account and photographs from a single witness. The investigation identifies Venus (see the investigation report).
The description and photographic appearance fit astronomical misidentification, and the UAP's position matches Venus. Its disappearance within 1–2 minutes of the last sighting might seem unusual, but moving clouds at that time explain Venus becoming hidden behind one.
GEIPAN classifies the case A: Venus misidentification.
