At 23:07 on 29 July 2021, a Dole (39) resident preparing for bed opened his window to close the shutters and saw a dazzling light. He described a white line moving silently from La Serre forest towards the area south of Chaux forest, a north-to-south passage. The UAP was ovoid and travelled very rapidly at an apparently constant altitude. He watched for about 6–7 seconds. No additional accounts were collected. GEIPAN assessed the evidential strength as weak: a single brief gendarmerie statement, no completed questionnaire, and no sketch, photograph or video. It defines evidential strength as the quantity of information considered reliable that is collected for an account. The description was typical of a fireball: extremely bright, travelling very fast in a straight line for only seconds. Searches of fireball databases identified an atmospheric-entry event observed from northern Italy with a matching time and trajectory; see the investigation report.
