Open this case in the interactive AtlasCase description
On the evening of 6 September 2021, a woman walking with her daughter in Saint-Pierre-d'Aurillac (33) noticed 2 very bright white points following one another as though part of a single object. They did not flash. Initially high in the sky, they followed what she described as a sort of curve descending toward the horizon. They gradually faded despite a completely clear sky. The sighting lasted 1 or 2 minutes. She specified that they were heading northeast, rather than toward Mérignac airport.
GEIPAN judges the evidential strength good. Its assessment describes a single witness, despite the daughter's stated presence, with no photograph and rather vague timing, but a precise path among the stars.
The description strongly suggests a satellite pair; see the investigation report. The NOSS 3-8 pair passed at a corresponding time on a trajectory fully consistent with the witness's description.
The witness had thought of a space shuttle, but the phenomenon seemed too large and too low. GEIPAN notes that she therefore considered a space object, while explaining that the size and altitude of an unidentified object are difficult to estimate, especially at night.
The case is classified as A: observation of the NOSS 3-8 satellite pair.
