On 25 November 2021 at 06:36 local time, a witness jogging beside the Canal de l'Ourcq near Meaux heard an odd noise and looked up. The witness saw what seemed to be an aircraft with unusual, flame-like lights. Because it was dark, the light was visible but the object itself was not clearly seen. A short, slightly zigzagging smoke trail was described as about 1 cm wide; no measurement reference is given in the source. The summary also describes the luminous phenomenon as first zigzagging and then traveling straight.
After about 4 seconds, what appeared to be the object's left side flared up, without an explosion sound, while it continued along a straight path. At the end of the run, around 07:30, the witness looked east from Meaux beach in Parc du Pâtis and saw a smoke trace in the sky. Only 1 account was collected.
The evidence is of moderate quality: there is only 1 account and no photographs, but the witness answered the investigator's questions precisely (see the investigation report).
The description suggests a fireball. The source states that a fireball was observed and reported on 25 November 2011 at 06:36:12 local time, although the case title and initial account date the sighting to 2021. Its trajectory is said to match the account perfectly in overall description, range of viewing directions, direction of travel and duration.
The flame-like lights, flare-up and smoke trail are explained by the fireball hypothesis. The slight unusual sound heard at the same time, which attracted the witness's attention, could have been a passing environmental sound, particularly from one of 2 railway lines 1.5 and 3.3 km away.
GEIPAN classifies the case A: fireball sighting.
