Case description

On 12 January 2022, a witness walking with 2 others on the outskirts of Pont-à-Mousson (54) saw a tubular aluminum-colored and black object to the east. It moved straight and seemed to rotate at times. They watched for 5 minutes before losing sight of it. The evidence is good: only 1 of the 3 witnesses submitted an account, but 2 videos and 1 photograph supplement the questionnaire. The investigation identifies a windborne object, very probably a Mylar party balloon (see the investigation report). The tubular shape was the main source of strangeness. Investigators confirmed that Mylar balloons come in varied forms, some of which can appear tubular. GEIPAN classifies the case A: Mylar party balloon.
