COLPO (56) 19.07.2022

On 19 July 2022, a resident of Colpo (56) was about to take his dog out when he saw an oval light toward the Moon from his doorstep. It remained stationary for at least 5 minutes before he stopped watching. Only 1 account was collected. Analysis of the photograph showed that the reported time was wrong: the sighting occurred at 03:07, not 23:00. The witness subsequently confirmed the correction; see the investigation report. GEIPAN judges the evidential strength moderate, with one photograph and a brief account. Under its criteria, evidential strength is the amount of information considered reliable that is collected for an account. The investigation identified Jupiter, whose appearance and location exactly matched the report. In the photograph the UAP is slightly elongated rather than point-like, compared by the witness to a banana. GEIPAN considers this consistent with slight motion blur in a handheld photograph.
