HENDAYE (64) 10.09.2022

On 10 September 2022 at about 07:02 in Hendaye (64), a woman on her hotel balcony saw a single, nearly point-like white light of constant brightness with the naked eye. It seemed stationary and very high in the sky. She took 3 photographs, and her husband also saw it. She then left the balcony. GEIPAN judges the evidential strength good: 2 witnesses, a single very precise account and 3 photographs. Under its criteria, evidential strength is the amount of information considered reliable that is collected for an account. The sighting fits the classic description of a planet or first-magnitude star, as the principal witness herself suggested; see the investigation note. Stellarium and Google Earth research placed Jupiter very close to the UAP: azimuth within 0.2° and angular elevation within 3°. The French analysis refers to that evening, despite the opening's explicit morning time. GEIPAN attributes the small differences to calculation uncertainty, imprecise plotted lines and photographic distortion. The photographed shape, color, lack of movement and position support a celestial-object explanation with very high confidence, particularly given Jupiter's nearby position.
