ORPHIN (78) 15.11.2022

Around 21:30 on 15 November 2022, a witness going to collect his vehicle in Orphin (78) saw a very bright, stationary Y-shaped UAP. He pointed it out to his father, who was present but paid no attention. He then saw several similar, approximately white stationary UAPs, less bright than the first. He also noticed a very large bright shape moving rapidly in a straight line, resembling 2 terrestrial radio aerials joined together and flashing all over. He had the impression that all the objects were heading in the same direction. After collecting his car, he tried to film them, but the large, fast-moving objects were no longer there. No additional accounts were collected. The gendarmerie statement was the only source of information about the account, as the witness did not respond to GEIPAN's request for clarification. GEIPAN assessed the evidential strength as weak: only 1 of the 2 people present reported a sighting, and many essential details were missing. The video offered little scope for analysis. It lasted only a few seconds against a very dark sky, with the UAP barely visible, out of focus and affected by substantial camera movement. The missing information comprised UAP azimuths and elevations, their number, apparent size and observation duration; see the investigation report. GEIPAN also noted apparently contradictory descriptions: Y shapes versus points of light, and white colour versus flashing red, orange and green lights. The initial stationary descriptions also sit alongside the witness's impression of common movement. GEIPAN classified the case C: insufficient data for analysis.
