Open this case in the interactive AtlasCase description
On 26 February 2023 at 01:00, a witness at home saw a fire-colored flying object with orange flames, apparently at the speed and height of a light aircraft. It seemed to come from Silly-le-Long toward Roissy–Charles de Gaulle airport, a northwest-to-southeast path as stated in the source, and moved in a straight line according to the summary.
Evidence is weak: only a gendarmerie report is available, with no completed technical questionnaire, photographs or video. Nevertheless, the fiery color and orange flames suggest a sky lantern, a passive windborne object.
Weather records from a station 18 km away show a wind of 18 km/h blowing northwest to southeast, matching the reported movement (see the attached weather extract). A Saturday night into Sunday is also a common occasion for lantern releases.
The case is classified A: very probable sky lantern.
