Case description

On 6 November 2023 at about 20:30 during a Monastir–Orly flight, an airline pilot and his copilots observed points of light of varying brightness moving along different paths at different speeds, with brief flashes. The observation lasted about 1 hour 30 minutes, until the descent toward Paris began. Similar phenomena recurred on later flights. GEIPAN assesses the unusualness as low and the evidential strength as good: several witnesses, but 1 fairly complete account and no photographs. It identifies Starlink satellite glints; see the investigation report. Under GEIPAN's criteria, evidential strength is the amount of information collected for an account that is considered reliable and objectively substantiated. The description fits such sightings. Stellarium analysis places the UAP 45° above the Sun's apparent position while the Sun was 30°–45° below the horizon. This geometry applied to all the reported observation dates. GEIPAN refers to a detailed website article analyzing sightings under similar illumination conditions, titled New phenomenon explained: Starlink satellite flashes. The case is classified as A: observation of Starlink satellite glints.
