On 14 January 2025 at about 07:00, a witness on a southeast-facing terrace was watching stars as night gave way to dawn. About 10 white lights in a straight line seemed to emerge above the northwest side of the house's roof and move southeast, slightly east of the usual sunrise position. A reconstruction photograph supplied by the witness confirmed this direction. Only 1 account was collected.
The description identifies a Starlink® satellite train. Satellites form this alignment after deployment from their launcher, before moving into their positions within SpaceX's Starlink internet megaconstellation in Earth orbit. The source explains their visibility as sunlight reflected from their solar panels while the Sun is below the observer's horizon (see the technical note).
CNES's Operational Space Surveillance Center, COSE, confirmed the track (see the appended technical note). A Falcon 9 launched the satellites from Cape Canaveral on 13 January 2025 at 16:47:09 UTC.
GEIPAN classifies the case A: Starlink® satellite train from launch 2025-008 on 13 January 2025.
