Open this case in the interactive AtlasCase description
On 20 February 2025 at 19:26, a witness at the entrance to his home north of Valras-Plage (34) saw a moving light phenomenon for 2–3 seconds. It comprised 2 reddish lights at the front of a translucent pinkish triangular shape that appeared and disappeared suddenly.
GEIPAN considers the evidential basis moderate: there was 1 witness and no photographs or video, but the information was clear, and a supplied till receipt confirmed the date and time. Under GEIPAN's criteria, evidential consistency means the amount of reliable, objectively supported information collected for an account.
The investigation considered atmospheric entry, an aircraft, Starlink satellites, LED balloons or lanterns, and birds; see the investigation report. None explained the observation conclusively. Atmospheric entry seemed most likely from the described features but lacked confirmation from a recording or another witness. The very short duration and absence of other witnesses prevented reliable reconstruction of the path and distance. GEIPAN classifies the case C: unidentified for lack of data.
