[A620] DE TOULOUSE (31) VERS MONTAUBAN (82) 13.04.2025
[A620] DE TOULOUSE (31) VERS MONTAUBAN (82), Midi-Pyrénées, France
Open this case in the interactive AtlasCase description
On Sunday 13 April 2025 at about 21:10, 2 witnesses traveling by car on the Toulouse (31) ring road toward Montauban (82) saw a fairly large, bright white object for 4 seconds. It moved along a descending parabolic path, with no visible trail or halo. Described as shaped “like a helicopter,” it appeared at azimuth 315° and elevation 30°, then disappeared at the eastern horizon after 4 seconds.
The case has moderate evidential support: only 1 of the 2 witnesses completed a GEIPAN technical questionnaire, and there are no photographs or video. GEIPAN defines evidential consistency as the amount of information in an account considered reliable and objectively supported.
The only hypothesis examined, a fireball, is supported by:
- An oblong shape resembling a helicopter cabin.
- White color and high brightness.
- Rapid movement along a descending parabolic path.
- A confirmed fireball over France at the observation time, reported by 56 witnesses from Toulouse in the south to northwest of Chartres, and across western France. The source refers to an event report on the IMO website, rendered there as “20252094-2025.”
- Descriptions by other witnesses consistent with T1's account.
- A broadly matching west-to-east trajectory.
- A very short duration of 4 seconds, consistent with the fireball observations, the great majority of which lasted 3.5 seconds.
- An initial position at azimuth 315°, elevation 30°, consistent with a witness's fireball observation at Fonsorbes near Toulouse: azimuth 330°, elevation 30°.
GEIPAN classifies the case A: fireball sighting.
