During the night of 17–18 June 2025 in Fréjus (83), a witness at home saw a stationary UAP encircled by blue lights. The elongated object emitted a bright light and moved in various directions, alternating ascents, descents, rapid movements and stops. Toward the end of the observation, its lights changed to white and blue. After several minutes, it disappeared high in the sky. No sound was heard.
GEIPAN assesses the evidential support as moderate. Although 3 people saw the UAP, only one account was collected; there were no photographs or videos, and the observation time was imprecise. Under GEIPAN's criteria, evidential support is the amount of information considered reliable and objectively established that has been collected for an account.
The witness found the many movements particularly unusual, especially the erratic changes of direction and apparently instantaneous speed, with no visible acceleration. The investigation focused on a recreational drone. GEIPAN considers the repeated movements, sometimes at high speed, the stationary phases and the starts without apparent acceleration characteristic of drone capabilities (see the investigation report).
It explains the lack of audible sound by a potentially substantial viewing distance, which would have been difficult to judge at night without reference points, together with wind that did not favor carrying sound toward the witness.
The drone's operator could not be found. The source states that the flight would have violated 2 prohibitions: flying at night and flying in an unauthorized area. These are the source's assertions about the proposed drone explanation.
GEIPAN classifies the case B: probable observation of a drone.
