COLOMIERS (31) 09.10.2025
COLOMIERS (31), Midi-Pyrénées, France
Open this case in the interactive AtlasCase description
On 9 October 2025 at about 20:48, a witness on his Colomiers (31) terrace saw three very high lights in a stable equilateral triangle move steadily and straight south to north. At the zenith, one flared intensely, “like a satellite reflection.” After about 2 minutes, the lights dimmed and passed behind a roof. He considered Starlink satellites or aircraft, but searches in dedicated apps found nothing.
Evidential substance* is moderate: one witness and no imagery. The three lights moving together caused the perceived strangeness. GEIPAN examined only a Chinese Yaogan satellite triplet hypothesis, supported by:
- Three white points maintaining an equilateral triangle and moving steadily in formation.
- Satellite data on the site named in the source as inthesky.com confirming Yaogan-40 02 A/B/C, launched from China on 11 May 2025, passing south to north at exactly 20:48–20:50.
- An estimated triangle side of 15 cm at arm’s length, about 12–13°, compared with about 5° separation in similar GEIPAN triplet cases and measurements from the site’s charts (appendix). GEIPAN considers an apparent-size overestimate probable.
- A component’s flare, a behaviour already filmed for Yaogan 16 (see “Yaogan satellite triplets in real-time”).
GEIPAN classifies A: satellite triplet observation.
*Evidential substance is information collected for an account considered reliable and objectively substantiated.
