BURGNAC (87) 07.04.2026
BURGNAC (87), Limousin, France
Open this case in the interactive AtlasCase description
On 7 April 2026 at 22:20, a witness outside his property in Burgnac (87) observed an elongated, segmented phenomenon resembling a compartmented cylinder for 20–30 seconds. The source summary describes it as white and cigar- or caterpillar-shaped. It traveled along a north–south axis before disappearing southeastward.
GEIPAN finds the case only slightly unusual, with a moderate evidential basis: 2 witnesses but 1 account and no photograph. Its investigation identifies all or part of a group described in the source as the 18 “Qianfan SpaceSail 109–116” satellites, launched less than 7 hours earlier by a Chinese Long March 8 rocket into a near-polar orbit; see the investigation report. Under GEIPAN's criteria, evidential consistency means the amount of reliable, objectively supported information collected for an account.
The satellites were directly illuminated by the Sun, which had already set for the observer, and became visible through reflections from elements of their structures. At the time they were in an intermediate orbit before moving into their assigned positions in the Qianfan SpaceSail satellite-internet megaconstellation, described as a Starlink competitor. The source also spells its name “Quaifan SpaceSail” once.
Many other accounts, including the GEIPAN case VERNOIL-LE-FOURRIER (49) 07.04.2026 and reports elsewhere in Europe, agree with this account and its overall description. Orbital parameters obtained during the investigation confirm that the satellite group was visible along the reported path. GEIPAN classifies the case A: satellite flares during an intermediate orbital phase before deployment into the Qianfan SpaceSail megaconstellation.
