Case description
Annie Laurie first noticed a large object at Boianai at about 18:00 on 27 June 1959. Anglican priest William B. Gill recorded seeing it two minutes later and called Ananias Rarata and others outside. His report places about a dozen people in this group, distinct from the larger gathering the previous evening. Four humanlike figures appeared on an upper deck; two seemed occupied near its centre, bending and raising their arms.
Gill waved and a figure appeared to respond. Ananias raised both arms, and eventually all four figures seemed to return their gestures. As darkness approached, Gill sent Eric Kodawara for a torch and directed long flashes toward the object. It reportedly wavered, then seemed to approach for roughly half a minute before stopping. Gill interpreted this as a response, without establishing the figures’ identity or a communication system.
The figures disappeared below deck, two later reappeared, and a blue light operated briefly twice. Two smaller objects reportedly remained higher and stationary. Gill went to dinner at 18:30; the principal object still appeared present but smaller at 19:00, before Evensong. Clouds obscured the sky by 19:45. A loud noise at 22:40 had no visible object associated with it, and Gill left any connection uncertain. The plate selects the waving phase, using the broader report’s sketch for craft form. Distant facial details and clothing remain unknown.
