Case description
A newspaper clipping filed in RAAF collection B 5758,56/AIR part 1 reports that David Reese and five friends saw an oval object while leaving a house in Wilmot Street, East Malvern. The clipping's date and Reese's age are inconsistent in the available OCR. Direct report forms elsewhere in the same file identify 30 May 1954 around 00:25, but the clipping should remain linked for duplicate and date review rather than counted as a separate independently corroborated event.
The newspaper described an object as large as a railway carriage, visible for roughly five seconds during an apparent dive. Reese said dark shapes inside resembled people. At the lowest point, estimated at 70 feet high and 60 yards away, it allegedly emitted yellow gaseous material and vanished abruptly. These dimensions and movement impressions were not instrument measurements. An accompanying newspaper artist's drawing was based on a description, not a photograph.
The direct forms record a dark oval, orange glow or halo, yellowish gas and disappearance in mid-air. They also preserve uncertainty: one account calls it stationary with an impression of speed, while a motorcycle-like noise was not securely attributed to the object. Those differences should not be hidden by the newspaper's dramatic sequence. Other Melbourne sightings printed below it were separate reports.
No resolved nonhuman anatomy was described, and no verified physical evidence appears in the recovered forms. The plate illustrates the clipping's apparent-occupant version, keeping the forms inside indistinct and explicitly identifying the press source and date uncertainty.
