Normanton / Karumba reported lights — July 1959
Normanton / Karumba, Queensland, Australia
Open this case in the interactive AtlasCase description
A Department of Civil Aviation memorandum from Normanton dated 29 July 1959 records inquiries into lights described locally as “flying saucers.” It states that an account was prepared for and signed by A. Charles, the Marine Pilot at Karumba, and that other persons nearby compared notes with him and could provide corroboration. The same memorandum separately records a senior groundsman and his daughter seeing, just after dark around 5 July, a round multicoloured light moving at considerable height east of Normanton Aerodrome for roughly 40–60 seconds before disappearing. The source therefore preserves at least one principal Charles report plus corroborative and nearby observations; this candidate represents the Charles/Normanton source cluster without merging distinct witness accounts.
