Case description
The Chambersburg encounter was reported at about 9:45 p.m. on 19 August 1967, beside a Pennsylvania road. NICAP’s later chronology describes two men turning their car to investigate a white light over a field. The surviving HUMCAT sheet instead identifies the driver as Miss Lonnie Jo H., accompanied by her boyfriend Bill S. It says he first called attention to the object and she turned the car around.
Both then saw a bright white light in the field. A noise from the roadside fence row drew their attention to a small humanoid figure. Its hands seemed unusual, and its luminous clothing appeared divided into blocks, like quilting. The driver was too frightened to retain facial details and drove away quickly. Radio interference accompanied the encounter; the later NICAP abstract describes a changing-pitch whine.
HUMCAT credits NICAP investigator George Cook and his special report, while the chronology cites the Pennsylvania subcommittee’s report of 4 October 1967. These related records disagree about the witnesses’ sex and preserve different levels of detail. The earlier named pair is retained here without concealing that discrepancy. Neither source establishes a shaped vehicle behind the white light or the being’s origin.
