Cabañas, Pinar Del Rio unidentified-object report — June 14, 1968

After midnight on June 14, 1968, machine-gun bursts were reportedly heard near the guard position of Isidro Puentes Ventura, a Cuban militia member outside Cabañas in Pinar del Río. An army patrol found him unconscious at dawn. The published account says he spent six days in hospital in a state of shock and unable to speak, followed by a period of neurological observation in Havana. When able to describe the incident, Puentes reportedly said that a brilliant round object with a dome and antenna-like features had been on the ground about 150 feet away. He had fired toward it before losing consciousness. The source trail adds claims that investigators collected forty-eight cartridge cases, fourteen flattened bullets and regularly spaced ground impressions. Those quantities come through Timothy Good's Beyond Top Secret, quoting Jacques Vallée, rather than a publicly reproduced Cuban military case file. They should therefore remain attributed investigation claims, including the later suggestion that a Soviet intelligence officer became involved. No occupant description is established by the available account.
