Case description
In the early hours of July 22, 1968, nurse Adela Casalvieri de Panasitti reported a striking encounter at the Carlos Pereyra psychiatric hospital in Mendoza, Argentina. Hearing a humming or buzzing sound, she went toward a courtyard and saw a large illuminated object close to the hospital buildings. Her descriptions compared its form to two saucers joined at their edges, with an overall size estimated at approximately twenty metres.
A red light reportedly reached her and she felt unable to move her hands and legs. She described square openings or portholes through which upper bodies of humanoid figures were visible. The object then rose, cleared a wall and departed southward. The precise time varies in retellings, with an initial sighting around 1:20 a.m. and a stopped watch reportedly reading 1:30.
The subsequent story includes claims of burns, damaged plants, ground markings and unusual radiation. These assertions should not be treated as interchangeable with an independently verified laboratory finding. Roberto Banchs's historical discussion reproduces material from Antonio Baragiola's recorded March 1970 interview with the nurse and examines discrepancies in the case's development. It provides a fuller testimony trail than the brief catalogue entries, while also showing that later physical-evidence claims require separate documentation. The Atlas preserves her account as testimony about an object and apparent occupants without identifying their origin.
