Case description

Maria José Cintra, a worker at the Clemente Ferreira sanatorium near Lins, reported an encounter with an unfamiliar woman before dawn in August 1968. A noise prompted her to look outside and go to the entrance, thinking someone had arrived. The visitor was of ordinary height, wearing a close-fitting hood that covered the hair and ears while leaving the face visible. An account by field researcher Edison Boaventura Jr. specifies a light-blue satin-like robe, matching hood and lead-grey belt; the APRO-derived catalogue instead says light-coloured shiny clothes. The woman spoke in an unfamiliar language and presented an unusually decorated glass bottle. Cintra understood that she wanted water and filled the bottle from a tap or drinking fountain, also providing water in a cup. The visitor reportedly touched her lightly while repeating a word transcribed differently as Rempaua or Embaíra. Later translations of the repeated word are speculative. On returning to the entrance, Cintra described a brightly illuminated object above a grassy area about twenty-five metres away. In the APRO-derived version it was pear-shaped with a flat bottom, hovering about a metre above the ground. Another figure was associated with the object, and the visitor returned to it before departure. The Brazilian SIOANI investigation instead uses dome-and-disc terminology and records two crew figures. The official file dates the incident 25 August; NICAP and some catalogues use 27 August. The SIOANI report and associated statements establish that authorities recorded and investigated the claim. They do not authenticate a nonhuman visitor, a translated message or the origin of reported marks.
