Case description
The Kangaskylä story claimed that two young forestry workers, Petter Aliranta and Esko Juhani Sneck, saw a metallic object descend near them on February 5, 1971. Tapani Kuningas's account described two joined saucers about five meters across, supported by four thin legs. A small figure allegedly floated from an underside opening onto deep snow. It wore an integrated green suit, including boots and head covering, with a round lenslike face opening and rounded, apparently fingerless hands.
In the claimed sequence, Aliranta restarted his chainsaw and advanced. The being retreated toward the craft while three other figures became visible through upper windows. When it rose toward the opening, Aliranta caught its boot and immediately released it because of intense heat. The craft allegedly departed with a quiet hum, leaving leg impressions, little footprints and disturbed snow. The men described stiffness afterward.
This case has a substantive hoax history. The Finnish UFO Research Association lists it among known fabrications. Tommi Ruuskanen's retrospective identifies the original newspaper story as an April Fool's report in Keskisuomalainen and says contributor Mauno Ihanti admitted participation in its invention during a 1990 radio interview. The reported hand burn was attributed to handling a hot implement. The plate reconstructs the story under a conspicuous hoax label. Unrelated Mary Jones/Milledgeville material accidentally attached to the imported description is excluded.
