Catanduva, Sao Paulo unidentified-object report — May 1973

In mid-May 1973, a man employed at Fazenda Secap near Catanduva, São Paulo, and his wife allegedly saw an oval flying object accompanied by two humanlike figures. The distinguishing description is brief: the figures wore unusually large hats and appeared linked by a tube. No reliable facial anatomy, colour of clothing, exact time or landing sequence is provided. The HUMCAT card explains how the story reached publication. Dr Elias Aziz Chediak, discussing Onilson Patero’s later May 22 encounter with reporters, said the farm couple’s observation had occurred approximately a week earlier. One newspaper suggested as many as six local residents also saw the object. Another reportedly included Patero among them, but the compilers specifically questioned that identification. The couple’s reported observation should therefore remain separate from Patero’s much more elaborate account of a car and a beam of light. The cited publication is Gordon Creighton’s article in Flying Saucer Review, volume 21, numbers 3–4, page 14, followed by later catalogues. This is an indirectly reported newspaper allegation rather than a located interview with the unnamed couple. It does not establish a conversation, physical contact or sampling.
