Case description
The NICAP electromagnetic-effects catalogue lists an evening encounter at Athens, Georgia, on September 3, 1973. Its short description says a motorist’s radio malfunctioned before a silver elliptical object landed on the road ahead. It then refers to a humanoid encounter and points the reader to another section of the same compilation. That cross-reference is a source pointer, not a second independently documented event.
A later chronology drawing on Richard Hall’s The UFO Evidence, Volume II, expands the sequence to two small beings emerging from an egg-shaped object. It supplies no reliable physical description beyond their small size. The accessible summaries do not identify the driver, provide an exact highway position, describe a conversation or explain how the encounter ended. Consequently, neither a standard grey-alien appearance nor a detailed onboard narrative can be justified from this record.
There is also a same-date Athens-area report of a lighted object swooping low over a road, cited to a September 4 UPI dispatch and contemporary UFO newsletters. Its published sequence differs, and no located source establishes that it is the same witness or incident. It should not be silently merged as corroboration. The Atlas preserves the radio/landing/occupant allegation while making the limited source trail visible; the plate depicts only the reported ellipse, motorist and small, anatomically unresolved figures.
